3 Important Trends in Social Media for 2014

It can be easy to sit back and assume that everything is status quo in social media. There haven’t been any major upheavals or algorithm changes in the last couple of months despite the report that Facebook is now “pay to play”. It has been for a long time. Some just didn’t want to recognize the trend.

That’s going to change in early 2014 just as it seems to do every 6 months or so. Things will shake, shimmy, and swirl around – that much is certain. What’s less certain is whether or not automotive social media companies will be able to keep up with the changes. Traditionally, they have not.

As we look at the way that 2014 is shaping up in the early days, there are three things that are already clear. They are nicely depicted in the infographic below by Boot Camp Digital:

  1. Google+ is big and is going to continue to become more important in more things than social.
  2. It is a pay to play social media world and the rise of social ads is not going to slow down any time soon.
  3. Social is a visual medium.
